To meet the new challenges of the international market a shoe export committee has been established in Wenzhou under the guidance of the Wenzhou Shoe and Leather Industry Association. The committee, that was officially established November 24, is made up of 13 shoe export companies, amongst whom there are some well-known names such as Jierda and Dongyi.

Shoe exporters in Wenzhou had for some time been considering ways to increase their power on the international market through increased cooperation and following two months of preparation and research, which began in September, the committee was officially founded in November. The research group that was set up in September urged the establishment of such a committee following such incidents as that in Elche, Spain where Chinese importers faced protests from Spanish workers. It was deemed necessary to improve cooperation and communication between Chinese companies in order to avoid such incidents and to eliminate export barriers.
