Clariant sells Clariant Polymers K.K. to Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry
Chemical giant Clariant has announced the sale of its Japanese emulsions manufacturer Clariant Polymers K.K. to the Nippon Synthetic Chemicals Industry Co. Ltd for ¥2.4 billion ($2.33 million).
Clariant Polymers K.K. is a manufacturer and distributor of liquid and powder emulsions that are used in numerous applications primarily in the construction industry. All 110 employees will be transferred to the purchasing company. Together with the manufacturing plant in Ogaki and R&D laboratories in Shizouka the company generated sales of approximately ¥5 billion Yen $4.8 million) in 2003.
The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co. Ltd is a major chemical company for the manufacture of acetic acid resins, polymers and electric related materials that find applications in packaging and electronic products. It employs around 1.400 people and generates sales of over 70 billion Yen.
The transaction is part of Clariant’s strategy to sell businesses that are outside its core activities. It sold large parts of its emulsions business to the Celanese Group in December 2002.
