Asia Pacific area to lead the way in leather chemical production

29/11/2004

Although the majority of research and development centres for leather production are based in Europe, it seems that a shift towards the Asia Pacific region is taking place for the manufacture of the chemicals themselves. Recent statistics reveal that over 50% of the global consumption of leather chemicals is accounted for in Asia, and it seems that chemical producers are relocating closer to their major consumers. Chemical giants such as BASF, Lanxness and Stahl have already established plants in China.

Lanxness has set up the company’s largest production facility in Wuxi City, Jiangshu to cover the Asia Pacific market. Both Stahl and TFL have also achieved good sales results following the establishment of plants in Asia.
