Nike president resigns
Nike has announced that the company’s co-founder Philip H. Knight has resigned from the position of president; he will, however, continue in his role as chairman of the board of directors. Nike has confirmed that William D. Perez has been appointed to the role of president of Nike Inc. Perez, 57, has moved from SC Johnson where he worked for 34 years and became president and CEO in 1996.
Speaking on behalf of Nike’s board of directors, Phil Knight – who started the company in 1972 with Bill Bill Bowerman selling track shoes out of the back of a car – said: “Nike has enjoyed tremendous success as we have grown to become a $12 billion global company. As I’ve said many times over the past three years, Nike’s current management team…., is the strongest it’s ever been. With Bill, we will become even stronger. I am confident that as CEO of Nike Inc., Bill will lead Nike’s extraordinary team of people to create an even bigger and better global company.”
