16/11/2004

The Leather Institute Gerberschule Reutlingen (LGR), a major training organisation for tanners worldwide celebrated its 50th anniversary on 12 November, attracting an array of speakers from the industry and important officials, who congratulated the institute on its long-cherished success.

The trainees of the institute have come from many different parts of the world, including countries as distant as Egypt, Australia and Mongolia. It is also the only official training body for tanners worldwide apart from a similar centre in Northampton, UK.

Dr Friedrich Bullinger, Permanent Secretary of the German Ministry of Trade and Industry, who attended the celebrations, pointed out that from the very beginning the institute’s work focused on three main elements— training, research and material testing, allowing teaching to reflect most recent research developments and practices.
