Changes afoot at Mirza Tanners

16/11/2004

Changes are afoot at India’s Mirza Tanners – owners of the Red Tape and Oaktrak shoe brands - with the company announcing a merger with privately owned company Leather Trends, and the company’s plans to move into the apparel business – all within a few short weeks.

The merger with Noida-based Leather Trends will lead to the creation of a further 2,250,000 shares at Mirza. It is hoped that the move will lead to an optimisation of operations at the two companies, improving the company’s infrastructure and aiding the development and consolidation of the women’s and men’s shoe divisions.

In a separate move, the company has also announced that it is to diversify its business and begin to sell men’s apparel under its brand name, with the aim of adding perfume and bags to the range at a later date. The manufacture of the new line will be outsourced and the new products will be aimed predominantly at the European market – particularly beyond the UK which already consumes 70% of Mirza’s shoe exports.
