Czech chicken farmer turns to crocodiles

12/11/2004

A Czech farmer has discovered an innovative new way to dispose of the underweight chickens produced on his chicken farm in Jevisovice, South Moravia…. 1,000 crocodiles.

Not only will the crocodiles clean up the unwanted chickens, farmer Jan Holy also hopes that they will become a lucrative sideline of his business – as he plans to breed them with their skins finally making their way into the leather chain. At present, the farm, producing 10 million chickens every year is forced to dispose of some 50,000 birds that weigh less than three pounds, as no-one is interested in buying them. This disposal is costly and inconvenient for the farmer, but Mr Holy believes he has found the perfect solution.
