The fourth ‘Meet in Africa’ (MIA) event hosted at the United Nations Economic Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has been hailed as a great success by organisers and visitors alike. The event which took place from October 6-9 attracted some 2,200 professional buyers.
Inaugurated by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, the fair welcomed over 270 exhibitors from over 20 countries. 90 Ethiopian companies were represented along with another 240 from other African nations (Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda). Some 55 other international exhibitors were also present at MIA, having travelled from Brazil, France, Holland, India, Italy, Syria, Turkey, and the United Kingdom to participate in the event.
It was not only those in the trade who were attracted by the MIA. On the second day of the event UK Prime Minister Tony Blair paid a visit to the fair and greeted several exhibitors including ELICO (Ethiopia) and Pittards (Great Britain).
