26/10/2004

Pirmasens-based Heinz Hummel GmbH, German manufacturer of children’s shoes is to close its production by end of May 2005, reportedly due to the serious illness of the 62-year old chief executive. His son Sven Hummel was to inherit the company but now the business is to be sold.

Due to the company’s unreliable performance shoe production has been affected in shoe factories across Poland, Bulgaria and the Far East. Polish manufacturers have been complaining for some time of unpaid invoices left by Hummel. Also PCSLI (Polish Chamber of Shoe and Leather Industry) has sent a warning to its members not to enter into any commercial deals with the Pirmasens-based company.

The company, established in 1964, employs some 14 people at its head office who are to be assisted in finding alternative employment.
