PLGMEA delegation meets officials to discuss sales tax refund claims
A delegation from the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) met with the country’s newly appointed Collector of Sales Tax (Enforcement) Mr Rashid Ahmed on October 21 to discuss the ongoing issue of outstanding sales tax refund claims.
Mr Fawad Ijaz Khan, chairman of the PLGMEA, stated that many members of the association have faced long delays before receiving any refund, and that the reason for claims being deferred is often not explained to the exporters involved.
Representatives from the tax authority explained that the delay in processing claims was due to re-organisation within the department and pledged to clear the backlog of PLGMEA members’ claims as soon as possible.
