Shenzhen shoe exports increase

25/10/2004

According to official statistics, shoe exports from Shenzhen reached $1.57 billion in the nine-month period from January to September this year. This figure equates to a rise of 1.89% compared with the same period in 2003.

Although these results show a positive trend, the recent situation is far from as bright, Shoe exports to Spain dropped by 20% in September alone, due to the negative impact of the incident in Elche, Spain where Chinese shoes were set alight by workers from the Spanish footwear industry.

However, despite this recent downturn, the nine months ended September 30, produced some promising data. Figures show that Chinese exports are spread over 130 countries, but the main focuses remain the USA and Hong Kong markets – which accounted for $780 million (+3.6%) and $460 million (+2.95%) respectively. Exports to the European Union also increased 2.64% compared with the previous year.
