Shenyang to build shoe production zone

25/10/2004

The mayor of Shenyang City, Chen zheng Gao, held a press conference on Tuesday (October 19) to invite shoe companies to set up facilities in the Shenyang Shoe Production Zone.

With Wenzhou covering the east of the country, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan dominating the south and Chongqing and Chendu established as the predominant shoe production areas in the west, the mayor believes there is a gap in shoe production in the north east and sees Shenyang as the perfect site for the area’s shoe production zone.

Chen said that preferential policies and the necessary infrastructure have already been implemented and the government would provide ongoing assistance to any companies that establish production facilities in the area. The planned zone will cover 3.3 square kiliometres and cost $487 million. An area of 150,000 square metres has been completed and 150 shoe companies have already relocated to the site. The next phase of construction will also include a technical school which plans to train approximately 5,000-8,000.
