Poznan Fashion Week confirms positive trend in footwear

18/10/2004

Poznan Fashion Week - the footwear, leather and textile fair – which took place September 7–9 in Poznan, Poland, attracted 10,000 visitors, a substantial increase on last year.

The Footwear and Leather Showroom registered 255 exhibitors from 11 countries, a 25% rise, whilst the Clothing and Textile Showroom maintained its popularity with exhibitors, registering 233 from 20 countries.

The organisers awarded 11 Polish companies with MTP (Poznan International Fair) gold medals: Eksbut, Roberto, Nik, Elita, Paters, Halmir, Sogar, Sas, Polskor, Adam and KBK. According to a survey carried out by organisers, most visitors spent two to four hours at the fair and 30% of them were company owners, followed by students and apprentices.

The increased interest in leather and footwear seems to tally with a report recently issued by BOSS (Business News Poland), a major publisher of market data. It states that the footwear industry in Poland is seeing an increase in revenue as a result of manufacturers building their own retail networks, securing sales abroad and improving the management of supplies. The market, however, remains dominated by imports and foreign investors, with Polish factories accounting for a 5% share only.

The next event to attract the three industries, Poznan Fashion Days, is to be held March 1-3, 2005.
