Hulshof’s Royal Dutch Tanneries wins Care and Profit Prize

18/10/2004

Dutch Tannery Hulshof has been awarded the Netherlands Care and Profit Prize for 2004, for its efforts to protect the environment, whilst continuing to run a profitable, well-managed business.

Hulshof began investing in environmental improvements in the 1980s, working on improving products, production methods, and working conditions. The company dismantled its purification plant that was situated in the centre of a village and built a high-tech anaerobic biological purification plant out of town.

The company believes that its environmental care system is an example to the entire Dutch leather industry of how the industry can thrive, whilst not causing pollution to the local or greater environment.
