PLGMEA urges retrospective implementation of duty drawback
The Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has urged
The Central Board of Revenue - the government body that oversees such matters - slashed the rates of duty drawback on leather goods exports in 2002. However, as the industry fell into crisis in 2002-2003 and as exports fell, rates of duty drawback were increased in October 2002, to protect the industry.
In light of this, the PLGMEA is now lobbying government to pay duty drawback increases retrospectively, dating back to July 2002, when the duty drawback rate was decreased.
