The latest figures released by Chinese officials for 2003, report that China has increased its shoe exports to Lebanon, and has for the first time become the largest shoe importer to the country, taking over from Italy. Chinese shoes now account for some 47% of the Lebanon’s total imports and valued at $29.63 million.
Official statistics show that approximately 86% of the Lebanon’s shoes are imported from China, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, and France. With China claiming 47% of the total number of shoes imported, the country’s strong position is self-evident. Lebanon exports approximately $10 million worth of shoes itself every year, with most of its exports heading to Saudi Arabia, France, and Kuwait.
