According to recent research, analysts are predicting that by the year 2007 – based on production forecasts by JD Power – LMC Automotive Forecasting Services - some 3.1 million cars in Europe will be fitted with leather seats.

Leather continues to be regarded as a luxury item by the car buyer, whilst to the manufacturer it is a profitable option for automotive upholstery. It is, therefore, predicted that the demand for leather will continue to grow as it becomes the ever more popular choice of interior for both buyer and manufacturer.

Current estimates state that leather seats are fitted to 1.84 million cars a year in Europe, representing 11.3% of cars manufactured. Analysts predict that this figure will grow to 3.1 million by 2007, representing a 16.5% share of European automotive output.
