Pittards attends ‘Meet in Africa’

12/10/2004

Pittards of England - a major consumer of pickled hairsheep from Ethiopia - has shown a strong presence at the ‘Meet in Africa’ show. The appearance at the show is seen to serve several purposes.

It is viewed as a way to counteract the negative reaction to the departure of John Pittard after 40 years in the company. A further reason is that Pittards is also one of the leaders in the campaign to improve the quality of the raw skins – particularly by eliminatingf the severe tick damage which has plagued the skins for a decade.

David Laws, Member of Parliament for Yeovil where Pittards is based, has joined Pittards in Addis Ababa to support this campaign, which is said to be having some success.

Meanwhile, organisers at the fair are said to be likely to accept the recommendation that ‘Meet in Africa’ be held in Cairo in 2006.
