Jilin Province increase shoe exports

08/10/2004

Figures released for the period January to August this year show that that Jilin province increased shoe exports by 85.2% compared with 2003 to reach $14.65 million.

Shoes produced in Jilin are exported to 15 countries with Russia, North Korea and South Korea importing the largest quantities. The statistics show that 1.53 million pairs of leather shoes were exported in the first eight months of the year and that the export price per unit increased 130% on the previous year to reach $4.9 per pair.

There are approximately 44 key shoe manufacturers in the province, of which private-owned enterprises accounted for 79.2% of the total exports, 24.6% more than in the same period last year.

Industry insiders claim the increase in exports is due to an improvement in the quality of the products, and the efforts of the government and local enterprises.
