Russian farm output up 3.7% in 8 months

Russia has increased its output of agricultural products by 3.7% year-on-year to 807 billion roubles ($27.62 million) in January-August 2004, according to the Federal Statistics Service.

Agricultural production was up by 7.3% to 255 billion rubles in August.

 

At the beginning of September Russia had 25.5 million heads of cattle at farms of all categories, down by 6.1% from the same period in the previous year. The number included 10.9 million cows – a 5.8% drop, 16.3 million hogs – down by 11.6% and 19.4 million sheep and goats – up by 5.1%, the agency said.
