Flat shoes are experiencing popularity not seen for a number of years. Comfort seems to have become chic and more women are choosing sneaky yet flat-soled footwear to avoid sore feet.

Flats are categorised as shoes with minimal – less than 1.5-inch – or no heel build-up and are different from comfort shoes which emphasise support and function. They are both fashionable (the ballerina, the sleek pointed-toe) and more comfortable than traditional high-heeled shoes.

Autumn is expected to see a 15-20% increase of sales in flat-soled shoes in USA alone.
