American children’s footwear retailer Stride Rite has reported a decrease in third quarter profits from $6.4 million to $6.2 million compared with last year. However sales improved slightly on last year, increasing from $139.7 million to $140.4 million.

The company said it was pleased with the results – particularly as Labor Day had been held on a later date than usual - and it is confident that the children’s group will finish the fiscal year with strong results.
