Baker’s footwear to miss 2004 target

21/09/2004

American shoe retailer Baker’s Footwear Group, which has over 200 stores selling its Bakers Footwear and Wild Pair brands, has announced that the company is to fall short of its financial estimates for the fiscal year 2004. The reason for the shortfall has been given as poor back-to-school sales and women choosing more casual footwear for the autumn season.

The target group of the company - young women between the ages of 12 to 29 - is opting for sports shoes and casual footwear and has moved away from more the traditional dress shoes, thus affecting sales figures in this area. The company said that although it anticipates a sales increase towards Christmas, the original financial forecasts are now very unlikely to be achieved.
