Redundancies announced at NZ tannery

17/09/2004

48 workers are set to lose their jobs at New Zealand Light Leathers, Timaru, in order to save the company – which employs 160 people – from bankruptcy. The factory is to also alter production in the facility, moving away from lambskin towards more deerskin production.

Change in demand has been given as one of the reasons for the redundancies, as well as a change in fashion trends, and an unfavourable exchange rate.
