Shortage of sheepskin blamed for likely closure of facility

06/09/2004

A fellmongery in Langholm, Scotland is on the verge of closing, with a potential loss of sixty jobs, if no buyer can be found for the facility.

The facility, Charles Paisley and Sons, which belongs to the Pittards Group has been in operation for over 50 years. Management claim that due to the 2001 outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the region and the ensuing shortage of sheepskin, the facility is no longer a viable option.

Following the decision of the Pittard's board management have been given 30 days to find a buyer before the factory is closed down with all 60 employees facing redundancy. All  workers have been made aware of the 30-day consultation period.
