Shoe export incentive programme launched in Brazil

03/09/2004

A programme to encourage Brazilian footwear exports has been launched by Abicalcados, the Brazilian footwear industry association.

The incentive programme, named ‘Brazilian Footwear‘ has been introduced in an attempt to raise global awareness of the industry, in an attempt to increase overseas sales.

Although the industry is by no means in dire straits - generating sales of $1.5 million in 2003 and projecting an increase of 15% in exports in 2004 – the footwear association sees room for further expansion, hence the ‘Brazilian Footwear’ incentive has been founded.

One aspect of the programme will be a ‘Brazilian Footwear’ stand that will bring together 40  footwear producers at GDS in Dusseldorf, Germany later this month.
