Asia Pacific Furniture Fair exhibitors to be scrutinised

03/09/2004

Following 30 complaints against furniture retailers who have failed to deliver goods - having accepted deposits for them - so far this year, the Singapore Furniture Association is to crack down on unscrupulous exhibitors at the upcoming Asia Pacific Furniture Fair.

Not only will the actual delivery of the furniture be checked, so will the quality of the items on sale, so as to assure such criteria such as that  items are fairly priced and that if something is sold as leather that it is real leather.

“We look at the product itself. If they say it’s leather, and it’s labelled as leather, we make sure it is leather, and not pseudo-leather,” Said the acting president of the Singapore Furniture Association, Paul Keng.

The checks will be both overt and undercover, with members of staff posing as potential customers.
