02/09/2004

Exclusive international leather goods retailer, Hidesign, is planning to open its boutiques in the lucrative regional markets of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Kuwait. The news was announced at the recent opening of its first boutique in a new Souq Madinet Jumeirah shopping mall in Dubai.

Until 30 September, as part of the launch, the world’s largest leather bag is on display at the mall, measuring 2.77 metres in height, 3.4 metres in length and 1 metre in breadth. It is yet to enter the Guiness Book of World Records.

At the launch event Dilip Kapur, Hidesign’s president, said: “When it comes to finished leather products, few regions in the world can match the potential offered by the Middle East market. The high per capita income, coupled with a brand-conscious lifestyle, ensures ongoing demand and tremendous growth prospects for international brands such as Hidesign.” Two more boutiques are set to open in the UAE in the next six months.

The company prides itself in using vegetable tanning techniques, which produce a desirable patina effect and are environmentally friendly. As part of its natural image the brand also uses solid brass fittings for buttons and buckles.

Hidesign produces leather garments and accessories, has two design teams in Europe in Asia and 30 stores worldwide.
