Price of rubber still up in Vietnam

27/08/2004

Vietnam Trading Ministry has announced that the price of rubber will continue to increase in the same way it has been for the past two months.

Reasons for the rise include the fact that China demands 3.3 million metric tons of rubber every year but only produces 500 thousand metric tons, the increasing price of petrol has indicated it is not economic to replace natural rubber with compound rubber, and because the output of desiccated rubber in Vietnam this year has been less than last year.

At the end of July the price of rubber per metric ton was $1500 compared to the June price of $1380 - $1400.
