KKI focuses on quality for automotive market production
Klein Karoo International,
The company delivered several presentations across the international motor trade, as a result of which a number of designs were done and some luxury vehicles were fitted with ostrich leather segments on seats, interior door panels, gear levers, handbrakes and steering wheel panels. Until now these were exhibited to motor industry specific clients at various international automotive shows. Samples are currently under review with a number of manufacturers.
KKI embarked on a high level research to penetrate new sophisticated markets when its relationship with existing leather clients was reformulated. Quality, flexibility, service and cost were identified as key ingredients. An upgrade of equipment and systems took place, staff was retrained and the Klein Karoo Tannery, home to the Hallmark of Quality ostrich leather since the early 1970s, had to be adapted to new working and administrative procedures. Significant investments were made in the development and acquisition of modern production and testing equipment.
Early in 2002 the KKI tannery facilities and the Leather Marketing Division were awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate. Today very strict and accurate documentation stipulate all production services and regular audits are carried out.
KKI says that market research and testing phases will continue, usage patterns will be established over time and the Hallmark of Quality KKI automotive ostrich leather will guard all its products.
