Re-upholstered leather Concorde seats on sale to individuals

26/08/2004

Muirhead, UK-based upholstery leather manufacturer, has refurbished 500 of the original supersonic airline seats which will be sold as individually numbered collector’s chairs for use in the office, boardroom or study.

“The original leather fitted to the Concorde seats was no longer suitable,” said Jon Rose, managing director of MGR Foamex, an aircraft manufacturer of passenger seating upholstery system that purchased the seats. Reupholstered in grey, they have been fitted with a full-function swivel base with height and recline adjustments and a discreet plaque identifies each seat as a Concorde original.

“Owing one of these seats is like owing a part of history,” said James Lang, managing director of Muirhead. “Everyone remembers Concorde for jetting the rich and famous across the Atlantic. Seat 1A was considered to be the most prestigious seat of all and now people have the chance to own a seat that was sat in by the Queen and Princess Diana.”

Prices start at £5,000 + VAT in the UK, $10,000 in the USA and €7500 in Europe. The 1A seat is valued at £10,000 +VAT, $20,000 and €15000 respectively. They can be obtained directly from MGR Foamtex.
