Whilst Wenzhou is the largest men’s shoe producer in the country, Haining is one of the most important leather garment production and distribution areas. Haining China Leather City alone, the largest leather garment distribution market in Haining, realised a sales turnover of $641 million (￥5.26 billion) in 2003.

Many leather garment manufacturing factories have already received higher foreign orders than last year and the export volume is said to be steadily increasing. According to the latest customs statistics Haining’s export volume in the past month increased by 25.1% on the previous year to reach $270 million.

Haining city will host the 2004 Haining China Leather Fair on 3-5 September. It is co- sponsored by China International Trade Promotion Committee, China Light Industry Federation and China Leather Industry Association, and the Haining government.

The range of the exhibition will cover mainly high quality domestic and imported leather skins used in making leather garments and gloves, leather sewing equipment, and leather garment accessories.
