Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan has asked Texas businesses to invest more in Vietnam and cooperate with the US authorities to support Vietnam's joining of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Deputy PM Khoan raised the request at a reception in Hanoi on Thursday for officials and business executives from Texas, a step in the development of relations between Vietnam and the Texas State. He stressed that many Texan companies have effectively invested in Vietnam and that the two sides have great potential to boost bilateral cooperation.
State Secretary Connor said Texas's aim is to become the leading State investor in Vietnam. Texas-Vietnam commercial ties have developed continuously with their trade valued at $103 million in 2003, a 17% year-on-year increase. Ten Texas-headquartered corporations have invested in Vietnam's energy, equipment, chemicals and agriculture.
