Poland requests 7% VAT on children’s shoes

17/08/2004

Poland wants the EU regulations to be changed enabling 7% VAT on children’s garments and shoes. At present, a lower 7% VAT applies to these and several other products in Poland, which is against European regulations.

According to Miroslaw Gronicki, newly appointed Polish finance minister, the VI EU directive is currently being reexamined with the view of introducing lower VAT on (among others) children’s garments and shoes. Current Polish VAT regulations were accepted by the Polish Parliament in March, two months prior to Poland’s accession to the EU, despite the government’s warning that they would clash with EU

law.
