Shoe exports up in Guangdong in the first half

04/08/2004

According to the statistics of Guangzhou Huangpu customs, the export of shoe products through the port has been increasing steadily this year. The figure from the first half of 2004 showed that shoe export reached up to 1.23 billion pairs, amounting up to $2.86 billion, 18.2% and 12.3% up on the previous year in volume and value.

Most of the exports were low-end products for the US and European markets. Despite the steady growth of volume, the export price averaged only at $2.33 per pair, far less than the price of shoes manufactured in developed countries.

China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) says that China’s shoe factories should explore the market in the Middle East and South America and invest into high-tech shoe products.
