16/07/2004

The latest free-trade agreement between Mexico and Uruguay introduced on 14 July, removes virtually all industrial product tariffs and farm produce. This includes leather, Uruguay’s vital export to Mexico. The treaty also sets up a framework for reciprocal investment and economic corporation.

Mexican President Vicente Fox and his Uruguayan counterpart Jorge Battle signed the accord on 15 November 2003 during the Ibero - American Summit in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Mexico mainly exports industrial and chemical products to Uruguay, which in return, supplies Mexico with agricultural products and clothing, as well as leather.
