14/07/2004

Guangdong’s largest shoe production zone is to be built in the Heshan county of the province, according to the China Leather Industry Information Center (CLIIC). The predicted investment of500 million ($60.9 million) will span over an area of 6.7 million square metres.

The production zone is an initiative of the Heshan Municipal Shoe Industry Association. The project is run by the local government, keen to continue its efforts to turn the industry into the backbone of the local economy. Local enterprises have also volunteered to contribute to the investment.

The zone will be divided into five geographic parts. One will be designated to local shoe-making factories, one to enterprises from the Yangtze river (including those from the Zhejiang province), one to shoe-making factories from southwest China (such as the Chongqi city), one to enterprises from the northeast part of the country and one to foreign shoe enterprises from Italy and Spain.

The project also makes provision for the development of a range of facilities for the zone including a professional hide and shoe accessory market, an exhibition hall, a shoe personnel training facility and a corresponding service area.
