PLGMEA requests change to Pakistan Trade Policy
PLGMEA requests change to Pakistan Trade Policy - 9.7
The Pakistan Leather Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has asked for changes to be made to the export and import regulations in order to ensure it can continue meeting global demand.
Lifting the ban on the import of fur was a main recommendation as fur is not restricted on an international level, and is a current requirement of foreign clothing buyers. Once again, fur has become a popular fashion item and being able to import it on the basis that it is exported as a feature on a leather product would undoubtedly benefit the industry and the economy. Similarly, it would be a positive step if shearling leather could be imported without having to pay the current 5% import duty, and the same should apply for accessories used in the production of the leather garment.
PLGMEA also urged that the Export Development Fund (EDF) should be restructured according to the product that is being exported, and if the Association was told in advance of the amount of funding they were to be granted, it could then draft thorough plans for the trade promotional activities.
