The 100th meeting of the American Chemists had a record attendance and appears to show increasing interest in leather and collagen research. Other areas featured were hide quality deterioration with focus on both improving the raw and upgrading leather in the tannery.

Professor Jaume Cot gave the J.Arthur Wilson address and a paper on the geopolitics of the leather industry over the last fifty years by John Koppany predicted that the leather industry would continue to relocate towards China, India and Brazil, but that it would remain a positive and healthy business.
