The Jones Apparel Group announced that it has agreed to acquire the Maxwell Shoe Co. of Boston for $346 million. This is the second increase offered by Jones, a New York-based company. Jones bid $23.25 per share, which is about 60¢ higher than Maxwell’s stock closing price on June 15. The companies are now working to complete the sale in early July.
