UK leathermaker adds heat repellency to list of leather properties

13/05/2004

Leading British technical leather manufacturer Pittards has developed a new “cool” leather.

Dubbed WR100 Cool, the new leather is based on mainstream Pittards sports leathers which are water resistant and have properties of dryfastness and softness. In the new WR100 Cool, additional technical properties have been added which reflect the rays of the sun associated with heat. This keeps the leather cool to the touch and ensures no additional heat passes through the leather to the wearer. The applications are not simple surface applications but are incorporated into the individual fibres so that they last the lifetime of the leather.

As well as heat protection, the new cool leather incorporates a number of additional benefits including colours that will not degrade in the sun and breathability without perforations which means the leather can also keep a wearer warm in winter without detracting from its protective benefits. The applications work in harmony with other Pittards leather technologies so that the WR100 Cool advantages can be incorporated into specific customer requirements.
