Hermès first quarter sales rise 7.7%

French luxury goods house, Hermès International, has this week reported a 7.7% increase in first quarter sales to €314.5 million.

 

Sales rose 14.4% on a constant currency basis and were boosted by a particularly strong performance in Asia, where revenues increased 18.4% to €151.3 million.

 

The bags and luggage division generated the majority of sales, climbing 22.3% to €120.9 million while in the silks segment they were flat at €36 million. Sales in the ready to wear and fashion accessories section, meanwhile, fell 5% to €71.9 million.

 

In Europe (excluding France) revenues rose 4.8% to €51.8 million, while in France alone they declined slightly, by 0.8% to €56.7 million. Overall European sales came in at €108.5 million – an increase of 1.8%. Performance was also strong in the Americas, rising 27.6% to €44.4 million.
