Another Czech BSE case
A new case of BSE is suspected in the Czech Republic, on this occasion in a four year old bull on a farm in Zvonkova in South Bohemia. "Just as in the previous cases, we do not expect the suspicion to be proved false," commented State Veterinary Administration spokesman, Josef Duben.
The farmer who owned the bull said he did not believe his other animals carried the disease because they were not of a similar age to the animal at the centre of the scare. He also claims he did not use any animal feed mixes, but declined to say where the bull was bought from. Since the beginning of 2001, Czech vets have tested almost 574,000 animals for mad cow disease and some 1,653 cows have been destroyed in relation to the disease. If the tests prove positive, as seems likely, the BSE case will be the Czech Republic’s 11th.
