Poland unprepared for animal product imports

11/05/2004

Following its accession to the EU on May 1, Poland has already started to experience problems with the import of animal products from the East. According to EU legislation, all shipments must now enter the country via one of eight recognised border points.  However, not one of the railway crossings among them has the veterinary facilities also required. The problem will be alleviated next year, when the first such facility will be opens in Terespol, on the Belarus border. However, the limitations are not seen as affecting imports from other EU member states.
