Liberty Shoes to open $1.8 million plant in Uttaranchal

The Indian footwear manufacturer, Liberty Shoes, has announced it is to open a Rs80 million ($1.8 million) manufacturing plant in Uttaranchal in September 2004.

 

The site will have the capacity to produce 5,000 pairs of shoes a day, increasing its manufacturing volume by 10%.

 

According to the Liberty’s executive director, Adarsh Gupta, the company also plans to open a further 25 retail outlets across India by 2006 with a total investment of Rs200 million ($4.5 million).

 

Liberty Shoes already has stores in Bangladore, Chennai and Hyderabad and over the next three months will launch new outlets in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Kolkata. Additional stores will also be opened in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Karachi and Dubai.

 

Last month it became the first Indian footwear company to open a store in Singapore. It also has outlets in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman, Kuwait and Fiji.
