Tasmanian bootmaker denies relocation rumours

Tasmanian bootmaker Blundstone has reaffirmed its commitment to manufacturing on the Australian island following rumours that it was about to move its production offshore. Speaking to the local media, chief executive officer Steve Gunn said the company’s recent $2 million investment in new equipment at its Hobart factory was proof of its intention to stay in the country. A new leather cutting machine was seen as improving the company’s leather yield, Mr Gunn said, while the addition of a new moulding machine would allow the company to expand its range, leading to growth.  Mr Gunn attributed the rumours to rival companies, adding that “Blundstone will remain a proudly Tasmanian and Australian company.”
