Pakistan rejection of Ugandan hides ‘not true’

29/04/2004

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has denied recent media reports that Pakistan has rejected the country’s hides and skins. In a statement, UIA executive director, Dr. Maggie Kigozi said that while reports of Pakistan banning the country’s hides were untrue, Kenyan hide supplier had been asked to stop drying the hides using salt from Lake Katwe, following complaints of poor quality. This request had since been complied with, Dr Kigozi said. Pakistan accounts for 98% of Ugandan hide exports.
