The US agency for international development, The Global Trade and Technology Network (GTN), recently organised a Handicrafts Technical Assistance Programme in Namibia. The scheme is aimed at supporting leather goods, textiles and craft producers who wish to export to the US.
The one-day workshop, which was organised in conjunction with the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Namibia Chamber of Crafts and the International Executive Service Corps (IESC), sought to provide companies with advice on identifying marketable products, improving quality, marketing and exporting.
The GTN said there is high demand for Namibian products in the US, however said they do not always reach the quality required. The agency said it hopes that bringing experts into the country and organising workshops will help companies to improve the quality of their products so that they reach international standards.
