26/04/2004

Four workers lost their lives in a blaze at a large glove factory near Sialkot on Saturday night. As a result, factory owner Khwaja Maqsood and his three sons, Taskeen, Yaseen and Hafiz are now facing charges while Chief Minister for Punjab Province Pervaiz Elahi has initiated an enquiry into the blaze, in which the factory and its contents were completely destroyed. The head of a major Sialkot-based footwear manufacturer was also killed early Sunday when his light aircraft crashed as it tried to land near the city. Sheikh Muhmmad Asif (55) was the head of the Rajex Group of Industries. Both the pilot and the co-pilot were badly injured.
