23/03/2004

According to statistics from the Wenzhou Foreign Trade Bureau, the city’s footwear exports to the Ukraine increased 112.3% to $20.6 million during January and February 2004. The figures also show that the country is the city’s fourth largest importer of footwear.

The bureau said that Wenzhou’s footwear exports increased 13% while the city’s total exports were up 23.4% to $524.4 million.

Mr Wu Guo Zhen, section chief of the department’s accounting section, said that the majority of footwear exports (60%) were to eastern Europe, however said figures for this area had declined due to goods being confiscated. Exports to Russia, Austria and Poland declined 11.7%, 39.8% and 36.6% respectively.

In a separate statement, the China Machinery Export and Import Commerce Chamber said recently that the Ukraine is investigating the anti-dumping of footwear imported from China.
